Cayenne Detox Water Recipe

The infamous 'cayenne detox' is one that has been around for years, and was popularized by celebrities during the mid-2000's.  At one point it was recommended that to get the full effects that one should drink nothing but this spicy, refreshing concoction for 10-days straight!

Let it be known, we are absolutely NOT recommending that to seems a bit ridiculous, no?

With that caveat aside, if you are looking for a way to curb your appetite, settle your stomach, and potentially kick start your weight loss we highly recommend whipping up this water when your feeling that mid-afternoon hunger to help curb cravings, boost your metabolism.

So why Cayenne Pepper?

Cayenne pepper is a proven stimulant for your digestive system.  Cayenne, paired with another natural digestive stimulant, lemon is a great way to neutralize and balance the acid in your body, and can help to reduce acid reflux.

This potent combination of lemon and cayenne is a one-two punch for fighting cravings (lemon) and boosting your metabolism (cayenne) naturally.

In addition to helping your gastrointestinal tract, cayenne also is a natural source of capsaicin, and can help calm headaches as well.

An alternative to caffeine?

If you are anything like me, the first thing you do in the morning is reach for your favorite mug to enjoy a hot cup of coffee.  While there are worse habits in the world, if you are looking for a way to move past the caffeine you get from your daily cup of joe, the cayenne-lemon-apple infusion can be a terrific way to boost your energy in the morning by stimulating your digestive tract.

How to make:

Starting ingredients

  • 1 Apple
  • 1 Lemon
  • 1/8 Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper

After gathering your whole ingredients from your local farmers market, co-op or grocery store, the next step is to prepare for infusion by:

  1. Slicing your apple into thin slices (roughly 3-4 slices per 16.9 ounces of water) and adding to your water.
  2. Slicing your lemon into thin slices (roughly 2-3 slices per 16.9 ounces of water) and adding to your water.
  3. Dropping 1/8 Teaspoon of Cayenne Pepper into your water.

We recommend allowing your water to sit for at least 5 minutes before drinking.

Have you tried the Cayenne Lemon infused water?  We'd love to hear what you think!
